About

I’m a senior engineer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where I develop autonomous underwater vehicles and oceanographic systems. I studied Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan.

• I’ve led system- and vehicle-level designs, such as the propulsion, buoyancy, and maneuvering systems for the DARPA Manta Ray glider, and various deepwater UUVs, including a 3,000-meter titanium vehicle.
• I designed SWARM, a low-cost, synchronized wave-sensing buoy array built for spatially resolved wave measurements such as directional structure, wavenumber, and site-to-site gradients, and for reconstructing the wave field across the array. Its records also serve as training data for machine-learning models.
• Earlier I worked in commercial ship design, as lead naval architect for the Clean Jacksonville, the Quad Cities, and the Annie Moore.
